One of our resident artists, Rebecca Finney, launched her Lexicon* project with an event in the gallery on 3rd November where visitors to the gallery were invited to contribute words to the Lexicon.... words that inspire, make you feel happy, joyful, strong; that encourage optimism, provoke thought or just make you smile when you hear them.
THE WORDS for the collection can be describing words (adjectives), doing words (verbs), places/people/things (nouns) or words that sound good when you say them (onomatopoeia).
THE LOVE PROJECT was started in May 2018 with the aim of creating a word hoard that is full of positivity and optimism and to create a place to preserve and treasure colloquial vocabulary (words about the land, countryside, nature and farming particular to Herefordshire especially). And to use the Lexicon as a resource to draw upon for creative activities.
Currently LOVE is working with the Marches Makers Festival to gather words that describe your experience of living in Kington: words that reflect the town and its surrounding countryside, its community and its history and heritage. Selected words from the Lexicon will be made into decorative lettering signs that will be displayed around Kington during the Marches Makers Festival to share with the community and visitors.

* LEXICON - a Lexicon is a special thing, an alphabetical word collection of a language or theme, differing from a dictionary in that it doesn't contain definitions. A lexicon can be the repository for words common in oral use, vernacular and is also the crucible of new words. The words included in this collection may be very personal and subjective, any language, idiom or invention allowed.
