Having come from a background of gallery management, it has taken a life move to the borders for me to fulfil a dream and start creating the things I have so often thought about.
A passion for interiors and colour, together with a desire to re-purpose sad or tired items has led me into upcycling, which I find hugely rewarding. I always hope to create a unique piece by adding design or by mixing and matching materials and textures.
I am mostly inspired by nature, and am particularly drawn to the starker shapes of seed heads, grasses and winter trees. I use block printing techniques to put this to paper or fabric, and enjoy the process of deciding how to use the resulting design.
I am currently working a great deal with hessian; hand printing with geometric designs and working it into objects. I like the contradiction of using a basic material like sackcloth for a rather genteel item (for example a chess board), but that is more the result of my preference for natural materials than a conscious statement!
