Inspiration comes in all sorts of forms; from gardening and finding stunning simple shapes of flora and the beauty of decomposition. Drawing and printmaking also have their role in developing ideas. Sometimes just making a piece of work moves things along and leads to a new direction to explore.

Alice attended the Glasgow School of Art to study constructed textile design and continued to do an MA at the Royal College of Art specialising in knitting, where she started using fine metallic finishes on knitted structures. Metal therefore has always been of interest as a material.
It was whilst her children were very young that she decided to pursue this further by doing an evening class in silversmithing to learn the basics of forming and soldering. This was an inspirational step forward and led to a whole host of new ideas and directions. Some of which have been touched upon in her latest collection of work. |
