KATHERINE MOORE
"Walking through the North West Herefordshire landscape I am struck by the structure of the land. The 'mass' physical presence of hills plus the 'volume of space' in between not obviously visible are what appeal to me as a landscape artist. What may appear as contours in my work are lines that describe structure connecting that 'mass' with 'volume of space'. Those same lines also provide an 'energy' of weather and bird flight through a land that is solid and ancient.
Working directly from my sketches, I reference the colours and textures by creating painted pieces, assembled according to the drawings, and adding ink line. It is a technique developed to incorporate my initial studies in Fine Art, a practitioner of textiles, and an interest in the natural environment. Each painting includes the grid reference for the specific position the sketch was drawn from."
