The LOVE (Lexicon of Optimistic Vocabulary Events) project was initiated by one of our resident artists Rebecca Finney. Started in May 2018 with the aim of creating a word hoard that is full of positivity and optimism and to create a place to preserve and treasure colloquial vocabulary (words about the land, countryside, nature and farming particular to Herefordshire & the Marches especially), and to use the Lexicon as a resource to draw upon for creative activities.
Currently LOVE is engaged in a community collaborative project, LOVEkington, for the Marches Makers Festival 2019. LOVEkington is inviting Kington residents and visitors to contribute words that describe and celebrate Kington: words that reflect the town and its surrounding countryside; its people and community; places and environment; activities (groups, societies, events, industry, trade and commerce); history and heritage.
To get involved you can contribute words to the LOVEkington Lexicon in person at Border Bean Café or via LOVEkington @ facebook/Instagram.

* LEXICON - a Lexicon is a special thing, an alphabetical word collection of a language or theme, differing from a dictionary in that it doesn't contain definitions. A lexicon can be the repository for words common in oral use, vernacular and is also the crucible of new words. The words included in this collection may be very personal and subjective, any language, idiom or invention allowed.
LOVEkington and Marches Makers are grateful to The Elmley Foundation and Great Places for their contributions to support this project. Also, to Kington United Charities for funding LOVEkington art workshop activities with students of Lady Hawkins School.
